The outstanding numbers of inbound tourism are a result of various thoughtfully designed promotional activities, which were launched by the Croatian National Tourist Board (CNTB) and their strategy to strengthen flight connections with Croatian destinations. These activities demonstrate Croatia’s extraordinary natural and architectural diversity and thus produce the surpassing results of 2016 so far.

Foreign versus domestic travellers

In the total number of arrivals, foreign tourists accounted for 14,483,311 arrivals and 80,768,257 overnight stays. Put in relation, the figures of the domestic travellers keep up with these exceeding results. Domestic tourists accounted for 1,867,853 arrivals and 10,691,006 overnight stays.

eVisitor

All data has been captured by the tool eVisitor. eVisitor is an initiative of the Croatian National Tourist Board and the Ministry of Tourism. It is currently used by more than 160,000 accommodation service providers and more than 500 other users involved in tourism. This large unique system easily allows registering guest data in Croatia. As an all-digital solution it gives real time insights into tourist traffic including several relevant criteria such as length of stay, location, gender, age, country of residence, type of facility, destination etc. Unlike the data from Croatian Bureau of Statistics (CBS) which includes only commercial accommodation capacities, the eVisitor data additionally includes traffic in non-commercial accommodation capacities, as well as capacities in nautical charter. All data is available free of charge with appropriate authorisation. It tracks data without the need of physical guest books and paper forms, and thus contributes to environmental protection and low costs.
